About
We are THRIVE Atlanta.
THRIVE Atlanta aims to reduce the development of chronic, debt inducing, and mobility
impacting disease of at-risk individuals in the Atlanta area by providing them with access to
preventative health care.
Through classroom education about wellness and nutrition,
experiential learning, and recreational classes, we hope to reduce the rates of chronic disease
development in the most vulnerable populations.
We look for volunteers across all dimensions
of our programming, including those that are interested in leading recreational, educational,
and nutrition-based programming, as well as child-care aides.
“Unhoused individuals are three times more likely to report a
chronic disease than those individuals in stable housing”
Our Mission
Preventing the development of chronic disease through volunteer supported
education, recreations, and nutrition-based programming.
Our Vision
To provide preventative healthcare options and access to unhoused and at risk
individuals in the Atlanta area.
Our Founder
Gabriela Olmedo, a student at Emory University, was inspired to create THRIVE Atlanta after working as an Emergency Medical Technician in Rockdale County, Georgia.
After seeing countless “frequent flier patients” – those who often were marginalized minority individuals suffering from an unmanaged chronic disease – Gabi considered how the role of preventative
health care could help individuals in her community combat the unfortunate increased risk of
chronic disease development because of their socioeconomic status.
